Chief Louis Little
THE BACK STORY OF THE CHIEF IN THE PICTURE...LOUIS LITTLE!
In 1899 Louis Little fought with Commodore Dewey’s forces in Manila Bay.
This experience was one the high spots in Chief Petty Officer Little’s life, he was around the Navy for 64 of his 80 years.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1889 and retired from active duty in 1919 as a Chief Quartermaster and settled in the Philippines.
Chief Little served his country honorably for 30 years.
At the age of 68 he reported for duty when the Japanese invaded the Philippine Islands during World War II.
Fighting as a guerrilla, Chief Little was captured in 1943.
In the picture Chief Little is on Naval Base Subic Bay, Philippines telling sea stories to a young Petty Officer.
This picture was in the National Geographic magazine in October 1953.
Very little information on what happened to Chief little is known.
He did pass away at the age of 80.
