ADC(NAC) Joshua Swanton USN

ADC(NAC) Joshua Swanton was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on February 4th, 1975. He continued to reside just outside of Appleton until enlisting in the Navy and shipping out to RTC Great Lakes on November 9th, 1993.

After recruit training, Chief Swanton attended Naval Aircrewman Candidate School at NAS Pensacola, FL followed by Aviation Machinist’s Mate “A” School at NAS Millington, TN. He then completed C-2A Loadmaster School at VAW-120, NAS Norfolk, VA, before reaching his gaining command, Fleet Logistics Support Squadron Four Zero (VRC-40), also at NAS Norfolk, in July of 1994.

While at VRC-40, Chief Swanton qualified as a C-2A “Greyhound” Loadmaster and later became a Crewchief. While in this capacity, he provided in-flight support during the transportation of high priority cargo, mail, and passengers to aircraft carriers underway. When not flying, he performed maintenance on aircraft engine and propeller systems, earned his engine turn certification, and qualified as a Collateral Duty Inspector. He completed two six-month deployments, the first of which with the U.S.S. America in 1995/96 and the second with the U.S.S. George Washington in 1997/98. While on active duty, he was awarded two Navy Achievement Medals and three Flag Letters of Commendation.

Chief Swanton left the active duty Navy in 1998 at the end of his enlistment and immediately began drilling with the Rota 0269 unit at Naval Reserve Center, Chicago. As a Reservist, he participated in annual training exercises to NS Rota, NAS Norfolk, NTC Great Lakes, and NAS Key West. He volunteered to drill off-site at the 128th Air Refueling Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard in Milwaukee, WI and became Leading Petty Officer of that detachment in 2003. For his efforts, Chief Swanton was awarded Sailor of the Year for Rota 0269 in 2004.

Chief Swanton completed his bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2002 and has become active in his community as an officer and a Life Member of his VFW post. He currently resides in Johnson Creek, WI with his wife of six years, Cathy, and two-year-old daughter, Josephine.
