Comments: Hello. I am looking for a MMCM Walsh (nuke) whom I served with aboard the USS Los Angeles (ssn-688). Master Chief Walsh was onboard until approximately 1989/90 when he retired to fleet reserve. Anyone having any idea of his whereabouts now I would greatly appreciate an email. I had great respect for this man and would love to know what he is up to now and would really like to re-establish contact with him. Thank-you. MM2/SS Daniel Lakey

I served in the USCG in WWII, from July,1942 to Oct,1945. My last duty station was the USS Alexander PF18. During the Korean Conflict, I served in the USNR, on the Arnold J. Isbell DD869 in 1950 and 51. Based out of San Diego, Japan, and Korea. Home port was Sasebo, Japan (Greg, please spell check) Would enjoy hearing from anyone who served on the Alexander and Isbell during that time period. Interesting note: The Isbell was sold to Turkey in the late 50's Great work here...Thanks a million, Greg!

As a former DBF Submariner and now a disabled vet, I like how you present this website to help out shipmates contact past shipmates and also allows us to keep up with the Navy since I am no longer able to serve. I called the USS Darter (SS-576) and the USS Barbel (SS-580) my home for 4 1/2 yrs. I served in the Salvage Navy aboard USS GRASP (ARS-24) & USS BOLSTER (ARS-38) both homeported in Pearl Harbor as elements of SERVRON 5. Definately got to see the world, the good and the bad, and the experiences will always be with me. I can never forget my first (and only) uninvited trip into the goat locker. I was setting and winding the clocks, and though the hatch was open, I didn't knock. The QMC squared me away quick! "You think you can just come ditty-bopping in here? Get the H**L outside and KNOCK 'fore I rip off your head and S**T down your windpipe!!! OS must mean 'Oh, I'm Stupid!" I can laugh now, 'course he was right on. That Chief became my mentor and trained me as a QM,SM,RM & made me a Salvage Sailor. I later served on the USS LUCE (DDG-38) out of Mayport, Fla. and with STANAVFORLANT. A salute to the Chiefs of the USN from the Always Ready Ships of the Salvage Navy. GO NAVY!

.HOOYAH!July 4, 1999 - On this 223rd birthday of our nation we still voice Abraham Lincoln's philosophy: "A government of the people, by the people, for the people. "Our Flag "Old Glory" is the sacred emblem of our country. It symbolizes our birthright, our heritage of liberty purchased with blood and sorrow. Our Flag is our title deed of freedom, which is ours to enjoy and hold in trust for posterity. As you see our Flag silhouetted against the peaceful skies of our country this Indepenence Day, remind yourself that It is the flag of your country, that it stands for what you are - no more, no less. Dedicate your lives to those principles for which our Flag stands: "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Our Flag was created in freedom. It made its first appearance in a battle for human liberty. Today fifty stars signal from the union of our flag, one for each of the fifty sovereign states in the greatest constitutional republic the world has ever known. There is but one word that describes our American Flag, that word is Freedom. We do not live under that Nazi swastika, the flag of the rising sun, nor the hammer and sickle. No Way! Because of the American veterans we live in a free country under the Red White and Blue, our Stars and Stripes that we call "Old Glory". Our American flag always shines brightly, always! It acquires its brilliance from American Veterans who fought and died to preserve it. It sure seems to me, that our flag shines much brighter today as we celebrate our nations birthday. Our American veterans have fought for these eternal principles: liberty, justice, and humanity, and they have prevailed, what so proudly they hailed... We are a privileged people to live in this free country, however our freedom was paid for with a tremendous cost, Freedom is never Free. As we celebrate the birth of our nation let us remember those who fought and died to keep this nation free. We are forever in thier debt. It is our love and duty to be proud of them!

All through my career I have had the utmost respect and admiration for Chief Petty Officers. As a young pup, I let them take care of me, i.e train, guide, kick in the butt when required; when I got a few grey hairs and 3 (and then 4) stripes on my sleeve, I did my best to take care of them. Isn't that exactly how it's supposed to be?
