He took pictures of some displays in the Chief's room on that ship - The Chief Petty Officers Creed, History of the Chief Petty Officer and the Chief's Anchors. However, they are hard to read so I was checking to find current copies and found your page on the net - It was great to be able to do that - NOW, I have another question posed by my sons - What is the meaning of the term "Goat Locker". It sounds familiar but am drawing a blank. Anyway thanks for having the home page with so much info. |

I tried looking at them, but after about "M", there was just a big blue blob running down the left side of the screen. Keep up the great work....I like others, I'm sure appreciate your page! |

Name: John Paul Yeoman RDC Ret. Website: Home Page Comments: Joined Navy in 2/54. San Diego Co. 039, Chief Nelson Company Commander. went to TI Rd school. Grad. in Aug 54, went on board USS Bryce Canyon Ad36. orders stated FFT. not knowing what FFT stood for I thought I had it made on that big ship. Then one day a special DD came alongside and I found out what FFT meant. Then I started a 5 year tour on the Lyman K. Swenson DD 729. From Aug 54 - Dec 58 Went aboard an RDSA made RD1 in Nov of 58 and put it on in Dec 58. Served 2 years at GLYNCO Officers CIC Course, then was transferred to COMAIRFORSO in Naples Italy for three years. From there to the USS Hancock CVA 19 in Jan 64 until Dec 67. Transferred to FLTSONSCH Key West Fl for 36 months.. (my best tour of duty). I finally finished out twenty for retirement on the USS Perry DD 844 in Mayport Fl. In Mayport, 1971 I accepted Jesus CHrist as my personal savior and He made the difference in my life. Retiring in 1973.Returned to Tenn. Worked for TVA about eight years. Went to college on the GI Bill and went into the Ministry and for the past 18 years I have been pastoring in Church of God's in Tn., Ohio, and Fla. Getting ready to retire again and go back to Whitwell Tn. Lots of good memories in the old "haze grey and underway". I'd do it again with a few changes along the way. Jesus Christ is the only way to go. |

Name: Tim Snyder CTTCM Ret. (Nov 62-May 85) Comments: I was updating myself with the Naval Cryptologic Vetrerans Association (NCVA) Web site when I came upon this site, outstanding, a lot of hard work has gone into developing, expanding and maintaining this page. I recently (Oct. 98) joined the USSVI (Chesapeake chapter), and just started reading the "Blind Man's Bluff" book which my wife got me for X-mas. I participated in 23 Special Submarine Operations, as a member of the Naval Security Group "Spook" rider teams. Made my first patrol onboard USS Snook (SSN-592) back in Aug 66, in the Sea of Japan. Made my last patrol onboard USS Whale (SSN-638) back in the summer of 81, in the Med. In between I had 21 other patrols, mostly between Feb 70 to Jul 80. Those deployments to me were the most "technical" rewarding of anything I did while in the Navy. I currently work with a Defense Contractor company in McLean, VA (RDSI), we develop software and some hardware used by the Naval Submarine School, the TTF's (Bangor & Kings Bay), and the NSGA's to train Submarine ET's on operation of the WLR-8 and Signal Recognition, as well as for the CT community who "ride" boats & ships' and also fly various versions of P-3C's. I develop the tactical Electronic Warfare scenarios that the ET's/CT's train on, using our (RDSI) companies software (EWPro). The software is also being used to train EW's aboard SLQ-32 Surface ships and is EW portion of BFTT. Enjoy the opportunity of imparting my EW background to today's sailors providing them the opportunity of learning about the ever changing Worldwide EW environment. Have the site Bookmarked...!!!!! |

Name: TMCS(SS) Herb Comments: Old diesel boat COB that started on the S-boats in 1938 aboard the S-37, put the USS Bugara on line as a plank holder and rode her through 6 WWII patrols in the south China Sea, came aboard the USS Whaoo where I took her on to many westpac runs to remember, you know out for 6 months and in for 6 months, did some time on the USS Tunny and another regulus sub before clearing the USS Sandlance out of mothballs for transfer to the Brazilian navy, after that much excitement I retired off the USS Cusk in 1968. Both of my boys went onboard the USS Daniel Webster SSBN 626G for a tour in 71 to 74. Thirty years in the service and I'm still blowing and going. |
