Comments: Just joined the CPOA as a lifetime member. Also a lifetime member of the NavyCryptologicVetransAssoc and NavySeabeeAssoc. Have two nephews in the Navy, one a LT the other a CDR. None of them were CPO material so they both took the commissioning route. The LT was a E5(Nuc) commissioned via NECEP the CDR was a SGT in 82 Airborne. I guess I'll give them some slack as they did have enlisted duty. If anyone recognizes me I am now a widower having lost my wife of 48 yrs 1/13. I reside in Seminole County Florida. The Navy had me in warm climates and now I am adverse to the cold. Always enjoy hearing from old shipmates.

Comments: While attending "C" school, the CPO results were released. When I asked the course Master Chief about the results, he said he was not sure. When I pressed him and told him I was ok with making the annual First Class meeting, he told me I was not selected. Later during class, Janet, one of the instructors interrupted the class and pulled the instructor out. As class leader, I was in charge. The rest of the students seemed to notice Janet was flustered more than I did and Senior was with her. Then walked in our three instructors, YNCM, YNCS, and YNC. Master Chief goes to the podium and says, "Whose SSN is xxx-xx-xxxx." To which I reply, "there is no way I popped positive on a urinalysis!" They all smile and Master Chief tells me no but you were selected for Chief! So much for Flag Writers and attention-to-detail - they originally looked under the SS group for me!

Comments: I joined the Navy on this date, January 26, 1966. I went to the Great Lakes Training Center. Since I was from Mississippi I was not prepared for the cold weather that greeted me upon my arrival. I was assigned to a transient barracks that had no heat so I had to cover myself with all of the clothes that I had just to survive the night. Still, all in all, this was the best decision that I made in my life, although the timing could have been a little better.
