Comments: Hello to our Navy Brothers and Sisters, While having been "lobotomized" (retired as CWO4(ENG) in 2006), I wore my anchors as a very proud USCG MKC for 6 years.
If any members of the Goat Locker from the George Washington should happen to see this, you might be able to "educate our young sailors" about the LONG arm of the Chiefs Corps by paying a visit to the ETs and asking very loudly, "So who thought it would be funny to send that video "Like a Chief" to one of my honored brethren from our fine sister service, the USCG???" It's for certain I'd have one amazed nephew! :) I was in the process of replying to my nephew, an ET3 on your CVN 73 in regards to that bit of "comedy" some otherwise clearly under-worked enlisted wit had put together, when I started to say to him "and by the way, if you know who created this, which Chapter is HIS Chief a member of?" when it suddenly occurred to me that you might not have your Chief Petty Officers Association organized by Chapters as we do in the USCG. While searching for an answer to that question, I ran across your very fine site. Was highly impressed and wish I had run across it sooner. Thanks for all your good work.

Lee (SSBN 601). At the end of his first enlistment, Liam became a recruiter in the Buffalo NY area. He recently retired from GE and looked forward to traveling the world with his bride of almost 39 years, to visit his family. My parents rented rooms to them when I was 5 years old! They told me about these people called "Chiefs" who, no matter what you needed, they could find it, get it, fix it, make it ... whatever the need ... "Ask the Chief!" was the key! I knew then, if I could be ANYTHING in the world, I wanted to be "A Chief" (whatever that was). Making Chief satisfied that life-long dream ... and it was better than I could have imagined! A great Brotherhood ... and still is!

Comments: I made Chief and Senior Chief aboard the USS Mahan (DDG-42) in Charleston SC. While on active duty I was also stationed on the USS Piedmont (AD-17) , the USS Howard W Gilmore (AS-16), and the USS Elrod (FFG-55). I did a recruiting tour in NRD Washington and, because I did not learn the first time, another one with NRD Denver. I also did a tour with ComLogGru2 in Norfolk VA. I was aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard when I retired at 26 years Active Duty in July of 2000. I have been trying to navigate my way through CivCom since then, Starting out in Colorado Springs CO. I am currently in Dallas Texas working for Texas Instruments.

Comments: Reading the Navy news on my I phone app for awhile now.........CO's being releaved XO's being fired MCPOC's being fired makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the absence of CPO initations and the strong message and the strong bond it cemented in the mess.............. The LEADERSHIP message!!! Leadershp by example..
In my day the CO's the XO's and MCPOC's would have heard and felt the message from the CPO mess before being fired and would have corrected thier conduct. They would have been policed by the CPO community. I reflect on this because I have been asked to help inspect a local Sea Cadet unit. I have been asked to inspect them and encourage them and give them a idea what Navy life is about. I know that my initation into the CPO community was the turning point in my Navy life. I still practice and follow the lessons and ideals I learned on my day of initiation into the CPO community. What advice and words of wisdom do I give these young patriots.......
