Comments: Haven't updated this since '99. I retired after 21 years in '01 and began chrisguitars.com several years prior to retiring. While in at CINCUSNAVEUR London '92-'94 I met my wife, Heather, and we married in '95. Retirement life is great but I'll always miss the camaraderie of the Navy, especially deployment. I was fortunate to serve some great tours including aviation, amphib - both ship's company and embarked staff, CINC Europe, 2 Joint Duty tours, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, and had the honor of serving as Senior Enlisted Advisor for both the Navy at Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Defense Information Center. One thing I learned that served me well: leadership is key to success. As a YNSA I learned under YN2 Louie Ferraro onboard Barry (DD-933), lessons that carried me throughout my career. At every duty station I had at least one boss who guided me. The common denominator among them was that they demanded the best from me and to them I attribute my success. To all my ship!
mates, especially from Barry, Guam, VP-23, and VQ-4, fair winds...following seas. To any young Sailors who read this: work hard, study hard, and have fun. You probably won't really appreciate a steel beach picnic until you leave the service. Consider a career. The time flies by, especially if you earn CPO. Shipboard life is much more civilized in the Chief's Mess than it is on the mess decks/crew berthing.

During my retirement speech I made mention by name, of shipmates that I served with in 1968. I can see there faces as if it was yesterday. The Navy was a big influnence on my life and will always cherish it.

I retired from Kodiak on 11 January 1971 after 19 years 1 month and 10 days.I reenlisted 3 times 3 months early.

Comments: I will always remember what I learn at ROP and it will always be a great moment in my life. I like the fact that being the CHIEF is a 24/7 anytime call me job even as a reservist. You work harder but you learn and I have an awesome brotherhood and sisterhood of outstanding resources. Its an honor to be here as it is to be an American! I was told by fellow Chiefs that I would not be here if it wasn't for Chiefs that believe that I had the leadership to lead and the guts to take care of my sailors. And those words I guess you could say got branded inside me for guidance and wisdom, I will not change them for anybody. My fellow Chiefs I did not got through induction to be push around by some green horn LTJG or feel sorry for a Sailor of the Year MAC(sel) that decided to quit induction. That's how I am starting the year its not what I was put here for and is not what I am about, but I guess you could say just some guys have to get schooled. And I guess you could say school is session and I am the teacher I mean the CHIEF! You are my support and motivation that sharpen the tip of my spear. God Bless America and God Bless the Chief Mess!
