Two of his children made it and he was extremely proud of us. Duty Stations: In mid 1944 I landed on New Guinea with a small group of Storekeepers, SK2 and above. The advanced Supply Base was called Gamadodo, in Milne Bay, New Guinea. During 9 months there I survived a race riot and Malaria. Moved to Samar in the Philippines and survived another race riot. Returned to the states January '46. In July 1949 logged aboard the USS TRINGA ASR-16, a SubRescueVessel, in Groton, Conn. Then the USS ORION AS-18 a SubTender, out of Norfolk, VA. In August 1958 transferred to the west coast to board the USS BOYD, DD-544. Made several westpac cruises thru 1961. Spent the next 3 years in COMPACRESFLT tending to the San Diego Mothball Fleet, distributing to the active fleet, valuable items from the various Pilferable Gear Lockers on these gallant vessels. Prior to retiring in June 1966, I was assigned to a MAP (military assist. program). Assisted in putting two mine sweepers in commission. One for the Greek Navy and later, one for the Chinese Navy.

Totally enjoyed my reserve time, worked with foreign navies on several occasions.
