I was lucky still to have the honor of making MMC while there, a good credit to the guys I worked with. Hope to hear from some others that were there while I was ( 92-94 )

Comments: Looks like a great site. I just reported to the Naval Reserve Professional Development Center in New Orleans, LA. It's a training command where we train Naval Reservists in a "boot camp" enviornment. Most of these people are non-prior service and have technical skills that the reserve force is short of, (e.g. medical and construction technical skills). Consequently, I have been researching Naval history, trying to find some interesting Navy trivia to enahnce the material that we teach. Alot has been written about admirals and generals that have shaped military history, but not enough about the Sailors standing the watches, making water and fuel or trapping aircraft on the flight deck at zero dark thirty. I imagine it's our job to bridge the gap in the classroom. I'm going to pass you web site on to a few Chief friends. Keep up the good work! alt email=celticpaul@webtv.com

Having sailed from New Zealand to Japan and from Viet Nam to the Black Sea, all through the Mediteranean Sea and the Pacific Ocean from Hong Kong through the Panama Canal to Mayport Florida. It was in Mayport or actually Jacksonville Fl. while stationed on the USS Perry DD 844 that I was born again. God was so good to me all through my time in the Navy. I went to Boot Camp in San Diego, Ca.; Radar School in Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay; was assigned three months to the USS Bryce Canyon AD 36; and then 41/2 years on the USS Lyman K. Swenson DD 729 while on the Swenson my first son was born. I was in Brunswick Ga. for two years at the Officers CIC School as Support Staff and acquired my second son from Glynn Memorial Hospital.. Beautiful Napoli in Italy was my next destination. There I put on the Chiefs hat and my daughter was born there. Three years on the USS Hancock CVA 19 was followed quickly by a three year tour in Key West Fl. as Instructor Staff for the 'O' course. My final tour was on the USS Perry DD 844 in Mayport. After retiring I went back to Tenn.

Comments: Well lets see where do I start. Well I joined the NAV back in Nov 1979. I went in subs and eventualy ended up on the USS Kamehameha SSBN 642(B), by the way if anybody ask it was the dry crew. After 6 years I got out as an FTB1 and went into the reserves. When I ent into the reserves they made me change rates from FTB to FC (surface fire control). I now have 18+ years in, acouple of years ago I picked up Chief and got initiated right along with the active duty folks. I am now, as far as I know, the only FCC/SS NEC0000 in the whole USN! Compared to the initiations I have recently witnessed it was a real humdinger! Any way I am now with Commander Naval Inshore Undersea Warfare Group 2 in Williamsburg, VA. Basically we hunt enemy subs, swimmers, etc, gaurd ports etc.. wear cami's carry weapons eat MREs,uck, and try to embarrase the Marines at their own game.
