NO TOMBSTONES IN THE SEA

There ain’t no rows
Of crosses
No graves to tend
And flower
For the men who died at sea
Just have the ocean for a bower.
They were buried
Wrapped in canvas
Weighed down so
They would sink
Then slipped off a flag draped
Platform into eternity – so think
About the sailors
Who gave their lives to God for truth
And to ensure our country’s freedom
In their youth.
So take a wreath sometime
And throw it on the open sea,
And say a prayer to heaven
For the graves you’ll never see.
