Comments: I liked your site; reviewing so many submarine sites makes me think I ought to start one for my boats. By the way, have you heard about the plight of the Cavalla (SS244)? Located in Galveston, Tx, it may become the first war memorial ship ever to be SCRAPPED because of lack of maintenance (i.e., lack of financial support) in spite of the fact that it is supposed to have been kept up by a local governmental agency, the Galveston Parks Board. See the website entitled "Neal Stevens' Deep Domain" for more details.

Comments: Just wondering if anyone from WWll would see this about the U.S.S.VULCAN AR-5, I served on this great wonderful ship from 1943-1946 as a gunners mate and diver. The VULCAN had served in the fleet for just over 50 years and then was decommissioned just after Desert Storm in 1991, was the first ship in the Navy to have women in her crew. The ship had 4 40mm 4 5in. 51 closed mount and 20 20mm guns. The government decided to sell her to a foreign country rather then to keep her as a museum, her engins were as good as the time she was commissinned. If there is anyone out there that wants to chat about the ship send me an e-mail.

I just wanted to say thanks for that letter that you have a hyperlink to that was written by the doctor about submariners. I used this to help motivate some of my recruits that are signed up for our branch and brand of service. You would find it incredible the amount of ignorance that prevails about the sub force in rural America. It is with homepages like yours that I can gleam information from not only to inform people but to recruit highly qualified men for the sub force. Thanks again, Chief, and my best wishes to you and yours.

Comments: Chief, After trying to become a member of the "Goat Locker" for 9 years, High Year Tenure beat to the punch of the civilian life. (Just retired 30 Apr 98). But my wife, whose a weekend warrior was just selected for Chief, and I'm very proud and happy for her (of course, I enlisted her [OSVET program] as a Seaman into the Reserve when I was on USNR Canvasser Recruiting duty). So we (her & I) were researching the Web for those special "Slug" tidbits she'll need in her process to become a member of the "Goat Locker". Just wanted to comment on your excellent site? Very informative, graphics are 1st rate, and resourceful links to other sites. Truely a labor of love, devotion to service and your creed. 1 comment bout your warfare designators. In Aug 95, CNO/Uniform board authorized two subspeciality Pins as Warfare desginators. (1) was the UDT/SEAL trident (annotated as BM1(SEAL)... (2) Combat Craft (or POIC small boat/combat craft) annotated as BM1(CC). IMHO truely warfare designators, since both are from the Navy Special Warfare community and see hostile or combat action on a more regular basis than fleet or avaition types. I wore a combat craft pin for 5 years before I was able to denote any designator next to my rate. Due to the fact that the combat craft pin (derived from Brown Water Navy during the VietNam war) is also used for small craft (like those academy students that take sail boats and YP's out in Ches bay,The Brown Water Navy has submitted a redesign for the combat craft pin, similar to, but not alike the SEAL trident pin, FYI. Again... thank you for the informative web site...... "Keep the Faith" Woody Wagner RM1(SW/CC), USN-Ret.

Comments: In September 1968, after successfully test firing two improved A3 missiles off Cape Kennedy, the Daniel Webster entered the shipyard at Newport News, Virginia, becoming the first of the A3 Polaris submarines to undergo a major overhaul and refueling. After completing overhaul in November 1969 and crew shakedown cruises, Daniel Webster transited the Panama Canal for Deployment to the Pacific Ocean under the administrative command of Commander Submarine Squadron Fifteen. I joined the Daniel Webster in the summer of 1969 during overhaul. We took her through the shakedown cruises and after the Gold crew sailed her to Hawaii the Blue crew sailed her to Guam. Comments: Great link! I'm not a chief, but I did make RM2(SS) during my 4 years in the Navy. Served on the Seafox (SS402) for 3 years. What a great experience! I later entered the Air Force and worked in communications and retired as MSgt. Why the AF? That is a long story! However, I have always been a submariner at heart and would not trade my time on the Seafox for anything. Many things that I learned in the Navy I took with me into the Air Force and made some changes there that helped our Mobile Radio Teams operating out of Guam into Viet Nam. I have really gotten involved in this Internet stuff and enjoy it very much. I deal only with submarine pages and find a new one every night! As soon as I learn more about what I'm doing I intend to construct a Web Page for the Seafox. I recently retired from public education as a high school principal and now I have some time when I'm not golfing. How great it is to see that so many are keeping the traditions of the Submarine Service alive! It really ticked me off when I saw that the stamp committee felt we were a Sub military unit. We are not sub to anyone or anything!

Comments: COB- Great site! P.S.- My first qualifier (USS Shark SSN-591)was officially about 1/2 knot faster than yours! BTW...did you know the Navy is changing the name of the Preventive Maintenance System? Someone felt that the term "PMS" was offensive! I guess you'll have to change the bottom of your page if you want to be PC. Take 'er deep, COB! (but not TOO deep on the S-Girls!) Comments: Hi Chief,I new to the cyber sub realm and just stopped by your site to see your "goat locker", nice job. I used to be ET1(SS) William MacIntosh off the Sam Houston and Ethan Allen. Now I'm just a stinking civilian reminiscing my 'good old days' as a Boomer Sailor and regretting my departure after only two hitches. Some, like you, didn't make that mistake and my hat come off to you, well done! When I left the Navy I had absolutely no idea how good I had it, especially as a Sub Sailor. Though, as you made very clear "Once a Submariner, always a Submariner"is the absolute truth. I still feel it within myself even after 14 years, I am a Sub Sailor heart and soul forever. Fair winds and calm seas Chief, William MacIntosh ex-ET1(SS)

Comments: Request permission to come aboard. I served on the USS Stonewall Jackson SSBN 634 blue crew in the early part of this decade. Anyone that was on the boat at that time and recognizes my name might not believe it but my time on subs is a period of my life that has left a lasting impression on me. My one regret is my lack of maturity at the time and that I was never able to really show what I could accomplish
