Currently attached to Naval Oceanographic Processing Facility Whidbey Island. My Previoust tour of duty was aboard the USS Seawolf SSN-21. I knew a Master Chief aboard the USS Augusta SSN-710 during a bried three month tour during the second half of their deployment who was apart of the crew of the USS Thresher when she went down. I found out that he was in a control room after the boat had left the yards and heard all of the tragic sounds as the fatal casuality occured and slipped into the depths to her final resting place on the bottom of the Atlantic. I believe he is now apart of NSSF in Groton, CT.

I was in the Navy from July 11, 1967, and was released from active duty April 2, 1971 due to the letdown of Vietnam. I went to basic training at Great Lakes, Company 313. I then attended Quartermaster A School at Newport, Rhode Island. December 1967 found me aboard the USS Massey (DD-778). I came aboard as a QMSN and departed as a QM2. Did two Med Cruises and numerous short cruises. Ship was homeported at Newport, Rhode Island. Then in 1970 the Massey became a reserve ship and was homeported at Brooklyn, New York. After being a civilian and working various jobs I enlisted in the US Army February 13, 1979 and retired as a SFC/E-7 May 31, 1995. I was stationed at several different Army Posts to include Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Gordon, GA, Camp Red Cloud, Korea, Mississippi State University ROTC with duty at Meridian Junior College, School at Fort Devens, MA, Camp Page, Korea and then back to Camp Red Cloud, Korea, Fort Polk, LA, Fort Meade, MD, Yongsan at Seoul Korea, Fort Carson, CO. After retirement at Fort Carson I moved back to my home of Boaz, AL.

I was in the navy from May 64-Dec 73. I spent most of my time in bars while on liberty. Never made much of the navy, I got in what I got out. Anyway I have a comment. I wish all you chiefs would post your duty stations and the periods you were there. Myself, I went to Great Lakes in 64 then my 1st duty station was a combination of Naval Station Washington D.C. and Qtrs "K" Columbia Pike Arlington, Va 64-65. Next was New London for sub school, did not make it so I got orders to Commissary Store Adak, Ak 65-66. Onto USS Dixie AD-14 1st Div. 67-70. Next came USS Hull DD945 70-72 and finally NAB, Coronado O&R Department 1st Div 72-73. Went back to work as a rigger on the LCRU at O&R from 74-80. I am presently unemployed, laid off from Delta Design in Poway, Ca and looking for warehouse work. So when you put a post include where and when you were station there so we might all remember you.

I was a Red Cross volunteer handling emergency messages aboard RTC/NTC Orlando from Jan., 1991, until base closure. In Oct., 2001, I founded The Ships Project (formerly The BATAAN Project) to send handmade gifts to deployed servicemembers. If you or someone you know is deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, we'd love to send packages for distribution. Everything is made and donated by volunteers. Please take a look at our website... http://www.wtv-zone.com/kjsb/bataan.html and sign our guestbook. We also welcome new volunteers--link to join is at the bottom of our website. My husband is a Navy vet--'63-'72 and got out as a DS1. His name is Jim Harpin. I've written to people in the military since Vietnam so would love to hear from any/all. Fair Winds and Following Seas

I was stationed aboard the USS Independence CV-62 from March of 1980 to September of 1983. Working mainly in Pri-Fly but also with the Master At Arms. I also served as a Corrections Specialist at the Naval Brig at NETC Newport Rhode Island. This was during the time frame of November 1983 to July of 1987. I'm looking for any shipmates from either one of these duty stations. I'm also collecting the Indy's cruise books, I have one more to go (1971-72) before completing her history with the cruise books. Any questions about the Indy's cruise books, let me know. I do have some extra copies of some of her books. The web site linked here is attempting to list ALL of the Indy's crew. So if you're an Ex-Indy shipmate check out this site. I'd also like to again thank the Master Chief for this site and his effort to maintain it, so thanks!
