Comments: Served on SSBN 600, SSBN 628, SSBN 629, SSN 674 ,SSN 685, SSN 638. Made 16 palaris patrols and easily as much sea time on the fast attacks. Presently a teacher of NJROTC at Harrisburg High School. Must admit I miss the boats and the personnal I have served with. Old membories never die, but reviewing others web pages sure brings many back. It is hard not to shed a tear at times with all that is remembered over 26 years of being in this service. The civilian community never can grasp what it really was all about, not even a clue. The membories are what we have to relive the past. Holy Loch and the old em club, before the gym was built. Hanging gardens on the Theordore Roosevelt SSBN 600. The icex on the Trepang, The med run on the Lipscomb. How do we ever forget. The many movies and pizza saturday nights. Add the Dunoon liberty and the Gourock ferry. The Simon Lake and other support ships. I also remember the many flights over to Holy loch and the return. How about the late liberty returns and not paying attention to the heads when you so desperately needed to use them. More than once opening a ball flapper at the wrong time.Yes such many membories. Fighting with the steering and diving system or the mk 19 Gyro. Well thats all for now. Hope some will remember as I have, and miss what I miss. Once a submariner always a submariner.

NTTC Bainbridge, MD 'R' Branch A School; NSGA Winter Harbor, ME; USS Georgetown (AGTR-2); NSGD Key West, FL; NSGD Washington Cheltenham, MD; numerous CONUS and OCONUS NSG sites during 23 plus years in SELRES. Initiation at NSGA Northwest in Mar 78 as the only candidate confirmed CNO's "ONE NAVY" position. The Deck Log shows that there is a lot of history out there; especially from our WWII and Korea vets. Wouldn't it outstanding if they submitted stories from those days that are not now in print? It would be a shame to lose all of that history, even the events that they would rather not speak to. Lest we forget, the world needs to know.

Hello Brothers! Just here to update my E-mail address and let the folks about to retire that Lucent Technologies is looking to hire some more folks with telecommunications experience. They just got rid of 16k side stepping beach creatures that weren't worth shooting. But this side of the ship is doing well and they are hiring. I went through MJMiller@lucent.com . Lucent actively recruits retired military. They hired one retiree that was working as a used car salesman, knew nothing about telecommunications and they are training him. Just thought I'd pass that on.

We too are called a "Chief" when you reach the pay gade of E9 in the USAF. We do not have the traditions that the Navy "Chief" has nor will we ever be able to reach your past accomplishments. I think that you have one hellava web page to honor all of the "Chiefs". My hat is off to you and yours for all of the efforts that make this Web page what it is. Keep up the good work. As I always tell my Navy Chief friend Bill Kline---"Squid" to Fly Air Force----and sign off as "Zoomie" as he calls me. I had 25 years in aircraft maintenance and wish that I had stayed longer. Nice to see a few old Intel Goats out there. ISCM Woolweaver, I went to IS "A" school in '75 also, entered as a PT, came out as an IS. PFM. I only did a few years of active duty, stationed in Key West at JARCC and NIPSTRAFAC, had a five year break in service and missed it every day. Reenlisted in Reserves in 1982 in Denver and drilled there with FIRSTPAC 0571, IPAC 0171, ONI 1071, JICPAC 0571, made ISC and became the CMC for the RIA. Did a few NRCIS tours with surface units, and came back into Intel to be the CSC. Then my civilian job, Regional SSO for COMNAVRESINTCOM, transferred me to Texas in 2000. Now I am with COMSEVENTHFLT, and have about 21 1/2 years TIS. They went by so fast. I'd like to hear from old shipmates if you're out there. I looked for CTAC Richard D. Armstrong, from JARCC, my first chief and role model, but never found him. Chief, If you are out there, thanks for everything, every day I try to help a young Sailor just the way you helped me. I am at mcroth1@msn.com.

Well it is a bloody small world, Greg, I noticed you were serving in USS Gurnard in 79-80, when I was a Petty Officer serving at the depot HMAS Lonsdale, Port Melbourne for a short time. Do you remember your visit to Melbourne? I remember your Boat's visit very well as I mated up with Howard Smith and Tom Fiacco (both Chiefs then) Howard being an ex PBR Boat Captain I think in the Delta (Bronze Star Recipient). Tom, Howard and I had a pretty severe run on the piss here in Melbourne, they were 'fun blokes'. The obligatory anti nuke demonstrators were out during that visit and from memory I think some of your boys made more than just 'casual friends' with a number of the demonstrators!

To all CHIEF PETTY OFFICERS past and present, I just want to say we were, are, and will always be the backbone of the NAVY that I love and those of you on active duty must keep that in mind for without that backbone, we surely will fall. Remember the last sentence of the CPO CREED, " YOUR PERFORMANCE HAS ASSURED US THAT YOU WILL WEAR YOUR HAT WITH THE APLOMB BROTHERS IN ARMS HAVE BEFORE YOU". With that I say thanks for the coffee and will be back soon.....Flags

My name is Joseph C. Pellegrini, Veterans Service Representative, Kansas Veterans Commission-Lawrence writing on behalf of the Widow of Mr. Thomas W. Kreider. Mr. Kreider earned the Purple Heart while serving on the US California in the Layette Gulf. Mrs. Kreider said her husband's award was issued in a plain purple box with no frails. She went to a show and saw boxes that were more elaborate and bigger with with Gold and Purple on the outside. Having served 26 years in the Army, my reply to her was that depending on what base it was awarded at, Time or Decade that it was awarded, or it could be a re-issued medal. Havever, the medal was the same and the significance of the award is not in the box it came in but in the medal awarded. The reason that I am writing to you is that the award came from the Navy and I would like her to view the Navies' response. I know this request seems trival, but nothing is trival in the questions of concern issued by the Veterans or Spouses. Any assistance that you may provide will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Joseph C. Pellegrini VSR-Lawrence Kansas Veterans Commission "Veterans all day every day"
