For this I thank him, not only for telling me about this web site, but for the many years he has served his country.I have served onboard the USS Lehey (CG-16), the USS Dixon (AS-37), the USS Joseph Strauss (DDG-16), and the USS Sacramento (AOE-1). Including tours at FTC San Diego, Trident Refit Facility, Bangor WA and Afloat Training Center Pacific (Current Assignment) all from 1980 to Present. I have found in the past several years just how small our nave is getting, as a member of ATG there are not many steam ships that I have not been on. Comments: I have visited several times, and each time I see new things. I have several ship photographs that I rode in, they include USS Banner (AGER-1), USS Benewah (APB-35); USS Reasoner (DE-1063) (Plank owner); USS Somers (DDG-34) (Made CPO); USS Berkeley (DDG-15). I would like to obtain photo's of a couple of ships that I was not able to get while on active duty, they are USS Perigrine (AG-176) and USS Towers (DDG-9). My last duty station was HRMC/OE Center San Diego.The building it was locate in was the old Dental clinic at RTC and just a hoot and a hooler from where I berthed while in Basic Training in 1965. It would certainly be interesting to hear from other fellows that were in the same Boot Company under MMC Orr, in Recruit Company 064. Or that were in the Chior Company too. Master Chief you have doneus proud.

Greetings, It is so nice seeing a page like this on the Web. I was a TAR airdale, spent most of my years in P-3's both as a Flight Engineer and maintenance technician. Was stationed at Naval Air Station Memphis 72-76 first tour (regular navy), earned my Aircrew Wings as an in-flight Plane Captain, transferred to recruiting duty then moved on to the TAR program and back to Memphis as a Golden Hawk in VP-67. Attended Flight Engineer school at VP-31 Moffett Field, graduating in Feb of 1980. Subsequent tours included VP-90 as Maintnenace Control Supervisor, 200 Divsion CPO and Substance Abuse Coordinator, then VP-MAU Brunswick, as 100 Divsioin CPO, Flight Engineer Coordinator/Safety-NATOPS Chief and Quality Assurance Officer. Back to NAS Glenview and VP-90 as maintenance Chief, flight engineer and then to VP-60 as Maintnenace Chief, Flight Engineer and the last Command Senior Chief before squadron decomissioning. Retired in Jul '95 and eventually got my present job as an Aviation Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) with the Chicago O'Hare Flight Standards District Office. Still "flying" but on a variety of aircraft during "enroute inspections" and still love the smell of JP/Jet A&B exhaust on the "ramp"....tdavis

Hi fellow shipmates, I started out in VP-56, Patuxent River, MD, then on down to Jacksonville, FL, for those who remember the transition. I spent some time in HS-1, on-board the USS John f. Kennedy back when it was CAG-1. I then went on to VP-62, VP-60, staff duty at RESASWTRACEN, Willow Grove, PA, and finally finsihing up in VP-68, Washington DC. A great career and a wonderful bunch of chief's.

Also, when ever someone complains about the quality of our younger generation, I tell them to visit a Navy base to set their minds at ease. This is one of the most wonderful feelings anyone serving in our Navy could experience, it is a feeling of great pride and accomplishment. I have never been one to dwell on what I have done well, this has allowed me to dwell on areas where I needed work. I love our Navy and hope to serve and to continue to do the right thing until it is time for me to go home. I was talking to a Master Chief the other day and he told me something that sums things up, "always do the right thing, the right thing might not be the popular thing with your superiors or your peers and you may suffer for that, but, if you always do the right thing good things will always come to you, and if nothing at least you will sleep well". Boot Camped at Orlando in '75 Company 444, then off to Millington to AE "A" School. Did my first tour in Iceland from '75 to '78 at AIMD. Reported to NAS Jacksonville for VP-30 Flight Engineer Jan 78 starting my 16 years of power lever pushing and after completion went up to NAS Brunswick, VP-10 for two years. Did a 4 year tour at PAX River with VX-1 from '80 to '84 flying all over the world and had a blast. From there I reported to VP-26 stayed there until 1989 then went to COMPATWING-5 for a short 14 month tour. Well the detailer was in a pinch so he needed me to go back to 26 where I did another three year tour. Left 26 in 1993 to grab some AIMD non flying shore duty and the Ortho boys down in Newport clipped my wings and grounded me for good. Reported to VP-10 in August '96 as a ground pounding Senior Chief where I made Master Chief. Now that was indeed a great tour, deployed as the MMCPO to SIG where we made history shooting the first wartime SLAM Missles from the wings of the P-3 Orion into Kosovo supporting NATO. Well now I am at AIMD Brunswick again for what will most likely be my last tour finishing up with 27.5 years of Naval service. It has been one hell of a ride. Miss all my former shipmates so drop me a line if you get a chance. GO NAVY, STAY NAVY. Great site Greg!!! Mike Sprinkle

Great site! I cannot believe they're doing away with the DC rate again! When I (or rather my father signed for me in 1971, I had a guaranteed DC "A" School. After boot camp I had orders to HT "A" school, phase I in Phila., and phase II in San Diego. It took me until '87-'88 to finally convert to DC when the rate was re-established. Maybe there should be a DC Association. Hey, they're using "Scott" air-paks now. I thought the A-4 OBA was a great improvement when I was on active duty.

Then to VS-22 at Quonset Point, ADR"B" at Menphis, NAVSTA Sangley Pt, RPI,instructor at Memphis, VP-22 Barbers Pt, instructor at Memphis, Commissioned, VAQ-129 Whidbey Is, VAQ-135 Whidbey Is, VT-4 Pensacola, VQ-1 Det Atsugi, NETPDC Pensacola, MAVMECH Det Pensacola. Being in the Navy was the most rewarding part of my life. IT WAS AN HONOR AND PRIVILEGE. And, making Chief was without a doubt, the proudest day of my life. I served on board the USS Sterett (CG-31/Subic Bay) 80-84; USS Reeves (CG-24/Yokosuka Ja) 85-88; USS San Bernardino (LST 1189/Sasebo Ja) 91-94; Weapons Training Group Pacific in San Diego at NASNI (88-91) and USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) 98-PRESENT.
