Comments: Was offered more sea time and one shore tour for the remaining service until 20 years. With 7 years sea duty, 8 boomer patrols, I decided that an additional 6 years of sea duty was not going to increase the salt ratio. So I submitted my resignation and reverted back to Chief and transferred to civilian.

I see the Pentagon is looking to change the retirement system. From what I have read I don't think it is a very good idea. Comments: I think I've probably logged in before, but not sure. Have been retired for 37 years now, and still stay in touch with many former shipmates. It was a great career, but I'm seeing a different Navy than the one I spent my career in. I see where CPO's are having to spend an inordinate amount of their time preparing for advancement, performing community service duties and gaining advanced education, instead of getting the job done, training both whitehats and junior officers, and taking care of their troops. Advanced education and the rest is commendable, but should not be a mandatory part of advancement requirements. If my Chief had spent all his time worrying about his own advancement, how much time would he have had to spend getting me prepared to relieve him?

Try to go fishing as much as possible on the Potluck with Chino, (best friend and fellow Chief). And of course take care of the homestead, the old lady and a few dogs.

We'd been in the Persian Gulf for 6 month and as The "Boot Chief" I learned my Spanish -- Cinco Cervesas!
