Comments: During my career, I never heard the term "induction" in relation to CPO "Initiation", and would make someone think of an Army draftee. However, things obviously must change in 29 years since I retired and Congrats to all who made Chief. I know it is a goal that not only you strived for but also those before you.
You have all worked very hard to achieve the superior status of a Naval Chief Petty Officer and my prayers go with all of you in any future endeavors or tasks you undertake. I would like to comment that you are not the only ones who had the ladies at your induction. I had one at my initiation nearly 40 years ago; I just didn't know she was coming. Good luck to each and everyone. You are the best in the best navy in the world.

Comments: I've learned over the past several years that there have been many changes to "MY NAVY" since I retired in 1989. We no longer "initiate" Chiefs, we no longer "haze" polywogs when we cross the line, there was talk of eliminating the Boatswain Mate rate (the first rate, only rate, Boatswain Mate), and they have done away with Signalmen, and Boiler Techs. Yes, there have been many changes, but thank God we still have the finest Navy on the planet and we still have the best trained and most professional sailors afloat. Hail to the Chiefs! Comments: I don't think I completed the nucleus crew duty-- USS Koelsch (DE-1049) never went to sea on her. Made Warrant and got shipped to Intrepid. In my 5 years as an RDC on Rush I never heard Chiefs Quarters called the Goat Locker. Must be a modern Navy term.

Some advice for all my fellow Chief's who are about to retire, make sure all your medical issues are documented and identified in your health record and separation physical. Upon or prior to your retirement join one of the many service organizations (ie...American Legion, VFW, Purple Heart) use these organizations to help with your VA claim and make sure you file your claim within one year of your discharge.
