Comments: Not since I was on active duty have I been on your website. Since then, I retired and am currently working at RGS Asso., Inc. I don't know if I'm suppose to pass on current information or will someone else update my record on file, please let me know. Navy Chief, Navy Pride. We are a good sell once we retire mostly because of the heritage we carry with us. It's not something that can be taught or learned, it is the life we have lived of service and sailing to the farthest corners of the globe. When you become a Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy, you become a Principle, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Friend, Lawyer, Doctor, Counselor, Police, Fireman, Nurse, Judge, and Jury. And all the training in the world could not season someone to be prepared as we are when we retire, we will always carry with us our chiefhood and core values.

Comments: Just checking in and highly recommending the book "Ask the Chief" by J.F. Leahy. Should be standard copy in all CPO Messes.
Retired in 1976 and so proud to have been a CPO. My father retired in 1948 as a MMC and is still alive and very active. He was one of the pioneer "hardhat" divers in the Navy and was stationed aboard 4 of the gunboats on the Yangtze River Patrol in China from 1934-1938. Has a remarkable record of combat in WWII and is indeed a "walking piece of Navy history".

Comments: I have been retired since November of 1992. That makes it about thirteen years since I wore the uniform of a Chief Petty Officer. However - I will maintain as long as I can breath that the training and experience I received as a Chief have stood me in good stead ever since I "put on the hat". I spent most of my career as an Aircrewman and will say, without hesitation, that I completely enjoyed each and every moment of that time. The men and women I served with, both Aircrewman and Pilots, were some of the finest folks I have ever had the opportunity to know.
I recently had the opportunity to visit NAS Whidbey for the first time in about 10 years. The place has changed but the Sailors I saw there are obviously carrying on in the finest traditions of the Navy. I visited the Chief's Club for lunch with a couple of former Chief's with whom I had served and we were impressed by the obvious high morale amongst the Chiefs we saw there. It is and will always be a point of pride for me to say that I was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy.

Comments: Glad to see a website for CPO's. I am proud to be a member of such a select organizationthat no other service except the USCG can claim to participate in it.I experienced the fraternity, respectand support of fellow CPO's after having spent 18 years as a white hat with no comparable experience to that which I found in theCPO community.I was initiated a Chief Petty Officer on 16 June 1977 at Camp Marvin G. Shields,Okinawa at the Seabee CPO club and carry those lessons with me today. I am presently unaware of the current situation regarding CPO initiations, but I can only hope that this time-honored and most important tradition is not in danger of being either diluted or discontinued. The rumors that reach me are not good. My wish is for the Chief Petty Officer community to continue to lead by example,to teach with experience and to embrace and support the new CPO communities so that they may remain for all time "the backbone of the Navy".
