You're "borrowing" on their "investment". Start "paying it back" now by establishing yourself as a leader among seniors and juniors. I'm 6 months into my retirment and work for Veterans Affairs as a Rating Specialist. I have two tips for all my shipmates who are planning to retire or end your Navy service. 1) On your Separation exam do not leave out any medical condition that has required Hospitalization, medication and treatment. You can be rated on almost anything, shipmates that's money in your pocket. 2) Make sure you file your claim with the VA within one year of your discharge or else you lose your entitilemet. (unless you have continued medical treatment from the date of discharge to the date of claim). A final note, for the rest of my fellow Hospital Corpsman, Apply for the RVSR positions when they are available, you begin as a GS-9 and if you can meet the required standards you will be as GS-12 in two years. (must have a college degree in most cases, depending on the area of employment)
