Ran away from Lake Charles La, '49. Started my kid cruise on the USS Higbee DDR-806, (Gun-Gang)best damn thing I ever done! After three years, transfered to Albuquerque NM Special Weapons. Rode the Boxer, and the Essex, (with the unit). Naval Weapons Depot yorktown Va. Cross-Rated to the SeaBees in '58. Toured around with MCB 5 a few years. Pushed Boots in San Diego in the '60's. Did a stint in Adak Alaska as the island investigator. Captured to join the gang in Danang, kinda settled me down to arm wrestle ships office for my papers, then said my good by's, to anchor in San Diego in '69. One hell of a ride, but the real treasure of my life. After my second retirement with the civilians, I organized my Country Band, and after 14 years still at it, and enjoy every week end, pickin' that Honky Tonk music, and fighting' this ageing thing! An old Navy Chief once told me long ago, "Ross, you need two things in life, a true friend, and a hobby. The rest will take of it self" For friends, I've been most fortunate, and the hobby, I never tire of! Ever around San Diego, call me, and we'll envite you to the dance, and share a few "sea-stories"

I got hurt and had to go to NAVAL HOSPITAL PORTSMOUTH VA in NOV 01 and now I'm okay but not fit for sea duty no more so I am TAD to NAVY MARINE CORPS RESERVE CENTER MOBILE ALABAMA where I will retire SEP 30, 2002 (22 yrs one month and five days). There is a small Chief's community here but if you guys need anything please let me know.

Our father passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, April 14th, after a prolonged fight with diabetes and congestive heart failure. There will be a public viewing and gathering this Wednesday evening, April 17, from 7-9 PM at the Stafford Chapel of Mullins & Thompson Funeral Homes. In 1991 during the Gulf War I was one of the flight deck coordinators for VFA-81 the Sunliners. We were the first Navy squadron to loose a pilot over Iraq. The pilot we lost was Lcdr. Scott Spiecker. As many of you may or may not have noticed here of late there has been a lot of discussion of him in the news services and the potiential mentioned that he may still be alive. As the last person to have looked into his face directly I have lived with this ghost for the last 12 years. I am here to tell you now shipmates that he is alive and still in captivity. Over the last three or four months several attempts have been made by good Americans and former Sailors to go over and bring him home. Our government has stopped these attempt so now it is our responsibility to bring our follow shipmate home. We must rally our elected officials and demand that Lcdr Spiecker be brought home now. Shipmates I am begging for you help. We left one behind and he is still there and deserves to come home.

Admiral of USS Saratoga during early WW2 yearI was his nure at the Nanal I was his nurse at the Naval Retirement Center in Gulfport Mississipi. I held him as he sliped away. I have no idea where he might be buried or where his family may be.. I do know that he had a daughter. He would allow nobody but me to see to his needs and we formed a bond during that time. Any records of him would be in the early 1900's. He had a picture of himself, Admiral Nimitz and the ambassador to Japan at the the time of Pearl Harbor.
